  This blog post is all about teaching science to your kindergartener. In this science curriculum, I am going to provide you with a whole book that contains four chapters which will teach basic science to your kindergarten student or child. These chapters are basically all that your kid needs to learn as basic science knowledge. This book is basically the syllabus of whole year for the Kindergarten students.  Let us have a look at the teaching guidelines for the book and then I will continue with the midterm and final term syllabuses and eventually I will share the whole book’s text in in the end.  

Teaching Guidelines For Science Book by Gemini Home School For Kindergarten

  This book will be best thing to use with your kindergarteners either you want to teach it in a class or even if you are home schooling your children.
  • The very first thing that I would like to mention here is that the chapters are written in a little tough vocabulary in my book. But the goal behind that is that it is not meant to be red by kids all by themselves.
  • Being a teacher, you will read out all chapters to your kindergarten student and explain the chapters by using presentations, stories and visual cards of relevant YouTube videos. I use a mix of everything with my kindergarten class.
  • At the end of each chapter there is an exercise containing Fill in the blanks, MCQ’s, True/False statement questions & Questions that may require three or five word answers and some even require only one word answer.
  • You must take at least one week to read the chapter and then explain it to your students.
  • Once they understand the concept, you can use one day to solve the MCQ’s & True/False statement questions with them. The love to do this activity. It makes them feel accomplished.
  • Once they know the chapter, they can solve the MCQ’s & True/False statements, it means the concepts for the respective chapter has been fed in their minds. The next thing will be to do the Fill in the blanks question. This is where they might feel a little hesitant or they may find it difficult.
  • Help them understand the statement, and then provide them with a word bank of three to four words with one right option that can go in the blank space as answer. They will easily be able to do this question this way. And later on after some practice, they will learn them and fill in the blanks without word bank too.
  • The next thing is to solve the actual questions and answers. I have designed these questions where the answers can hardly be five words if long enough or else, they are only one to three word answers.
  • To answer the questions, I do not use verbal or oral learning approach only. I use four lined English copies. For each chapter, my kindergarten students tell me the answer. I write both questions and answer on the board and then they write them down on their copies.
  • Go for one to two questions for one day. They will not only write down the answer but learn it as well.
  • At the end of each chapter, you will take one oral test and then several written tests where you will provide tests in the form of worksheets, with all questions from the exercise of each chapter. The students will attempt the written tests like exams and will also give exams at the end of their midterm and final term.
  • Chapter number one and two will be learnt in the midterm as midterm science syllabus of kindergarten.
  • Chapter number three and four will be the part of their final term science syllabus for kindergarten.
 

Science Curriculum For Kindergarten (Midterm)

  Since the Science book by Gemini Home School that is going to set the syllabus for whole year has four chapters, it will be divided equally into both the midterm and final term. The first two chapters of the book will be the part of midterm syllabus of science for kindergarten.  

Reading Syllabus For Science (Midterm)

  In reading syllabus, the teacher will read out the chapters to the students and translate them if necessary (in case English is not the language of your country or students). The teacher will read out the chapters and explain the concepts orally, in the form of presentations and by showing interesting videos to the related topic as well. There are varieties of videos available online. You can also choose to play videos from Gemini Home School’s official YouTube channel which will be publishing detailed lectures on topics and books covered on this website. When a chapter has been read to the students, you will be required to proceed to the exercise of the relevant chapter and solve all four portions by keeping one question portion for one day and verbally get students to participate and answer the questions. The teaching method will be same for each chapter. Later on once they have answered the questions, and you have corrected them if there were mistakes the next part will be the written and oral learning part which is described below.  

Writing Syllabus For Science (Midterm)

  The MCQ’s, Fill in the blanks & True/False statement questions will be solved on the books by students. The teacher will read out the question statements and then ask the kids for the right answer. When their answers will be right, the teacher will ask them to write them down on the book. Later on these activities will be done again and again as worksheets in the later stages of the midterm when they will be giving written tests and their midterm exams. As far as the questions are related. Kids will write down the answer for each question on their four lined copies with one question and its answer on one page. This way they will complete one chapter on five pages. I will create a separate post or a YouTube lecture on copy making for kindergarten for your better understanding of it.  

Learning Syllabus For Science (Midterm)

  In learning, it is all about oral learning. If you have taught really well and the lessons were interesting, then your kindergarteners will have every concept refreshed in their minds. They should learn all the questions from the exercises and should be able to answer them when asked orally.  

Science Curriculum For Kindergarten (Final Term)

  Chapter number three and four or the last two chapters of the book Science For Kindergarten by Gemini Home School are going to be the syllabus for the final term of kindergarten.  

Reading Syllabus For Science (Final Term)

  The teaching methodology for the final term will not be different from the midterm. The only difference will be that there will be two new chapters. The whole approach will remain same.  

Writing Syllabus For Science (Final Term)

  The writing syllabus will be all about chapter number three and chapter number four’s exercises. The method of writing and attempting the exercises in writing will be same as of the midterm.  

Learning Syllabus For Science (Final Term)

  The kindergarteners should be able to learn every material about chapter number three and four of the science book either it’s about the concepts or all the questions of the exercise. The learning methodology will be same like mentioned in the midterm syllabus.

Chapter 1: Human Body

  Human body is made up of many components that are both living and non living. These components create an entire structure of human body including different organs, tissues and cells. Human body also consists of five basic outer body parts in its anatomy which includes the head, torso, legs, arms and neck. Although every human being is different, but our body is made up of many body parts in our anatomy which are similar in every human being. These body parts have been shown in the figure below. Uses Of Major Body Parts

  Our body has many major body parts that help our body to perform many functions. We use these body parts for different purposes. Hair: Hair cover the head. Eyes: Eyes help us to see. Nose: We smell with the help of our nose. Hands: Hands help us to grab things and do major physical activities. Ears: We listen with the help of our ears. Mouth: We chew and eat food with the help of our mouth and also breathe Knees: Our knees help us to move forward. They also help us to lower and raise our body and support our body in an upright position. Legs: We walk with the help of our legs. Feet: Our feet help us to walk and also help us to balance ourselves on the surface we are standing or walking. Neck: Our neck supports our head and helps us to move our head in different positions. Skin: Our skin acts as an outer layer of our body which protects the body from damages in case of injuries and also protects the body from harmful sun radiations and keep the body temperature normal.  

Sense Organs

Our body has five sense organs . Sense organs respond to the external stimulus and conveys the message to our central nervous system to understand and respond to the information regarding any reaction received from the external stimulus. The five sense organs are as follow:   Eyes: Eyes help us to see things around us. Nose: Nose helps us to smell good or bad odors. Ears: Ears help us to hear sounds and voices. Skin: Skin helps us to touch and feel different textures. Tongue: Tongue helps us to taste different flavors.  

The Five Senses

  We have already read earlier that human body has five sense organs. These sense organs help human beings to have five basic senses that they can use for various purposes.   Kindergarten Science Syllabus   Five human senses are as follows:   Sense of Touch: Sense of touch helps us to feel different textures. We can understand if something is hard, soft, rough or smooth. It also helps us to differentiate between cold and hot water or materials. Sense of Sight: Sense of sight helps us to see our surroundings and things available in our surroundings. Sense of Hearing: Sense of hearing helps us to hear different voices and sounds and to understand what someone is telling us or what sounds are being produced by different living things, vehicles etc. Sense of Smell: Sense of smell helps us to smell recognize good and bad odors. Sense of Taste: Sense of taste helps us to taste different edible things like food and juices. It helps us to differentiate between tastes like sweet, sour, bitter and sour etc.

Chapter 2: Cleanliness

  Cleanliness is an important aspect of human lives. We should keep our body, clothes and our environment clean. Cleanliness helps us to stay healthy and avoid different diseases that are caused by germs. When should make sure to consider cleanliness in our daily life routine.   In order to adopt cleanliness, we need to adopt good habits and keep ourselves neat and clean all the time.   Unclean habits and unclean environment can spread many diseases. For example, if you meet a person who is sick and if they do not cover their mouth whilst sneezing or have not washed their hands after coughing and covering the mouth with hands doing so. You can catch the disease from that person if you both shake hands. This happens due to the germs that are available on the hands of the sick person. Germs makes us sick. Germs only get produced on the places and body parts that are unclean. So in order to avoid diseases, we need to wash our hands and cover our faces if we are sick before talking to someone or meeting someone. We also need to keep our environment and clothes clean to stay clear of germs and to avoid diseases. We should also convey the message of cleanliness to our family members, friends and fellow citizens  to help them understand cleanliness better and to create a clean and neat country in the long term by keeping ourselves and our environment clean.

Chapter 3: Plants and Animals

  There are many living and non-living things in our surroundings. Both living and non-living things create our surroundings. Non-living things do not need water, oxygen or food to survive and live. Living things require food, water and oxygen to live and grow.   Free Kindergarten Science Curriculum   In living things we have humans, plants and animals in our environment. All the living things are dependent on each other for their survival. Animals need plants or other animals as their source of food and human beings need animals and plants as their source of food to survive and grow. In this chapter, we are going to study about plants and animals and their importance in human lives and for the environment as well.  

Plants

There are many plants around us. Most of us have plants in our homes as well. Plants are of five different types/kinds. Some grow in sizes and becomes trees, some are in the form of shrubs and herbs, climbers and creepers. Some plants have flowers and some do not. Uses of Plants

  Plants are very useful for the survival of both both humans and animals. Plants are useful for humans and animals in many different ways which include: Food:  Plants are a major source of food for humans and animals. Most of the herbivore animals rely on plants for their food. Animals consume different parts of plants as their food.
  • Leaves of some plants are used as food for example spinach and radish leaves.
  • Roots of some plants are also eaten such as radish, carrots, cucumbers etc.
  • Cereals from plants like wheat, maize and barley are a source of different kinds of food we eat.
  • We also use seeds of some plants for making oil by compressing them. Seeds like mustard and sesame are not only consumed on their own but their oils are also used in many dishes. Similarly coconut oil and mustard oils are used for cooking meals too.
  • We also get fruits from many plants such as mango, banana and apple etc.
  • Vegetables like tomato, turnip etc. are also produced by plants.
  • Plants also provide us with dry fruits and raisins.
  • Spices like pepper, cumin, cloves etc. are also the produce of plants.
  • We also get coffee, tea and sugar from plants.
Medicine: Many plants are used to produce medicines and are known as medicinal plants such as neem and tulsi. Paper: Many plants like bamboo are used to make paper for writing and printing purposes. Wood: We use woods from different trees to make furniture, building materials and to burn it as a source of fuel as well. Rubber: We also get rubber from rubber plants. Rubber is used to make tyres or erasers. Decoration: We use flowers of different plants for decorating our homes and places for different functions. Cotton: We get cotton from cotton plants which is used to make clothes of different kinds. Perfumes: Flowers of many plants are used to make perfumes for examples roses and jasmines. Reduce Air Pollution: Plants produce oxygen and absorb excessive carbon dioxide from the air making our air pollution free.   We should take care of plants. We should water the plants timely and we should keep planting more and more trees to make our environment pollution free and help it become beautiful and livable.  

Animals

  Animals are the living things that can move from one place to another. They rely on plants and other animals for their food. Animals are of different types. Some of them live on lands, some live in water and some live in dry areas like deserts. Animals are big and small in size. Some animals are domestic and they are kept by people at their homes for helping in cultivation or for getting food and milk from them for example cows, buffaloes etc, whereas some animals are wild and dangerous.   Kindergarten Science Curriculum by Gemini Home School   Some people also keep animals as pets such as cats, dogs and fish. While some animals like horses, camels and donkeys are also used as a source of transportation. Wild animals usually have sharp and pointy teeth. Chapter 4: The Earth and Sky

The earth that we know as our home is basically a planet. It is round in shape and consists of air, water and land. The Earth is the only planet amongst all the eight planets which has life on it.   Science Curriculum For Kindergarten   The major reason of life on earth is the presence of water and oxygen on it. The earth is the fifth biggest planets amongst all the eight planets. The earth like other planets revolves around the sun. We get different seasons due to the rotation of the earth around the sun. When the earth revolves around the sun, and the axis of the earth points towards the sun, it is summer for that hemisphere. When the earth’s axis points away from the sun, we can expect winter for the hemisphere which is away from the sun.   Free Kindergarten Science Curriculum   It takes one year for the earth to complete one whole rotation around the sun. The earth does not only revolve around the sun, but it also revolves around its own axis. It takes the earth one day to complete one rotation around its axis. The rotation of the earth around its axis causes day and night. The side of the earth which is facing the sun gets heat and light and is known as day time. Whereas the side of the earth which is not facing the sun is dark and cold and is known as the night time.   Kindergarten Science Book   The sun is a huge gigantic ball made up of burning gases which provides light and heat to the earth. The sun only looks small from the earth. All the planets including the earth revolve around the sun. The planets that are closest to the sun are very hot like Mercury. Planets that are away from the sun do not get enough heat of the sun. Earth is the only planet which gets a moderate amount of heat and light from the sun that helps it to sustain life on it. At the night time we see many stars on the sky. These stars are only visible at night because during the day time they are invisible due to the bright light of the sun in the sky. Other than stars, we can also see a huge white and bright shining white ball in our sky. This is the moon. The moon is not a star. It gets its light from the sun. It glows with the light from the moon.
