Since this book was designed for a school in Pakistan on a special request, the last chapter is about the country Pakistan. But this chapter can be replaced with the country information of any country where you and your student or children reside.
Teaching Guidelines For Social Studies Book by Gemini Home School For Kindergarten
This book will be best thing to use with your kindergarteners either you want to teach it in a class or even if you are home schooling your children.
If you need any assistance regarding the fourth chapter, you can request Gemini Home School team by using our contact form or by leaving comment in the comments section and we will come up with a new chapter on Our Country for any country that guys need information for.
Let’s have a look at teaching guidelines. These will help you out whole year and will smooth out the learning and teaching process for both the student and the teacher or parent if homeschooling.
- The very first thing that should be mentioned here is that the chapters have been written in a quite a tough vocabulary in this book. But the focal goal behind that was that it is not meant to be red by kids all by themselves.
- Every teacher or parent is required to read out each chapter by themselves to their kids or students by using presentations, stories and visual cards of relevant YouTube videos. I am a fan of using mixed approach of everything with my kindergarten class.
- After you are finished reading the chapter and giving concept to your students, then at the end of each chapter there is an exercise containing Fill in the blanks, MCQ’s, True/False statement questions & after these three questions you will see Questions that may require answers in the form of sentences. Sentences will be really simple having three to five words maximum.
- At least one week should be taken to read the chapter and explaining it to the kindergarten students.
- Once the kindergartners understand the concept, you can use one day to solve the MCQ’s & True/False statement questions with them. The love to do this activity. It makes them feel accomplished.
- Once they know the chapter, they can solve the MCQ’s & True/False statements, it means the concepts for the respective chapter has been fed in their minds. The next thing will be to do the Fill in the blanks question. This is where they might feel a little hesitant or they may find it difficult.
- Help them understand the statement, and then provide them with a word bank of three to four words with one right option that can go in the blank space as answer. They will easily be able to do this question this way. And later on after some practice, they will learn them and fill in the blanks without word bank too.
- After completing the first three questions with your students, the next thing is to solve the actual questions that require statement answers. I have designed these questions where the answers can hardly be five words if long enough or else, they are only one to three word answers.
- To answer the questions, you will not only use verbal or oral learning approach only. You will also be required to use four lined English copies. Now in order to understand how to use copies and writing approach for learning take example of my class.
- For each chapter, my kindergarten students tell me the answer. I write both questions and answer on the board and then they write them down on their copies.
- Go for one to two questions for one day if they are really short to answer. Kindergarteners will not only write down the answer but learn it as well.
- At the end of each chapter, oral tests for the whole chapter will be taken and then several written tests should be scheduled, where you will provide tests in the form of worksheets, with all questions from the exercise of each chapter.
- The students will attempt the written tests like exams and will also give exams at the end of their midterm and final term.
- Chapter number one and two will be learnt in the midterm as midterm social studies syllabus of kindergarten whereas chapter number three and four will be the part of their final term social studies syllabus for kindergarten.
Social Studies Curriculum For Kindergarten (Midterm)
Midterm is the first half of the year. My syllabus is always divided into two halves of the year. First half is called the midterm where the students will cover two chapters from the book.
Reading Syllabus For Social Studies (Midterm)
In reading syllabus, the teacher will read out the chapters to the students and translate them if necessary (in case English is not the language of your country or students). The teacher will read out the chapters and explain the concepts orally, in the form of presentations and by showing interesting videos to the related topic as well.
There are varieties of videos available online. You can also choose to play videos from Gemini Home School’s official YouTube channel which will be publishing detailed lectures on topics and books covered on this website.
When a chapter has been read to the students, you will be required to proceed to the exercise of the relevant chapter and solve all four portions by keeping one question portion for one day and verbally get students to participate and answer the questions.
The teaching method will be same for each chapter. Later on once they have answered the questions, and you have corrected them if there were mistakes the next part will be the written and oral learning part which is described below.
Writing Syllabus For Social Studies (Midterm)
The MCQ’s, Fill in the blanks & True/False statement questions will be solved on the books by students. The teacher will read out the question statements and then ask the kids for the right answer. When their answers will be right, the teacher will ask them to write them down on the book.
Later on these activities will be done again and again as worksheets in the later stages of the midterm when they will be giving written tests and their midterm exams.
As far as the questions are related. Kids will write down the answer for each question on their four lined copies with one question and its answer on one page. This way they will complete one chapter on five pages.
I will create a separate post or a YouTube lecture on copy making for kindergarten for your better understanding of it.
Learning Syllabus For Social Studies (Midterm)
In learning, it is all about oral learning. If you have taught really well and the lessons were interesting, then your kindergarteners will have every concept refreshed in their minds.
They should learn all the questions from the exercises and should be able to answer them when asked orally.
Social Studies Curriculum For Kindergarten (Final Term)
Chapter number three and four or the last two chapters of the book Social Studies For Kindergarten by Gemini Home School are going to be the syllabus for the final term of kindergarten.
Reading Syllabus For Social Studies (Final Term)
The teaching methodology for the final term will not be different from the midterm. The only difference will be that there will be two new chapters. The whole approach will remain same.
Writing Syllabus For Social Studies (Final Term)
The writing syllabus will be all about chapter number three and chapter number four’s exercises. The method of writing and attempting the exercises in writing will be same as of the midterm.
Learning Syllabus For Social Studies (Final Term)
The kindergarteners should be able to learn every material about chapter number three and four of the social studies book either it’s about the concepts or all the questions of the exercise. The learning methodology will be same like mentioned in the midterm syllabus.

A family tree is a diagram which shows our different generations and their relationships with each other and ourselves.
A family tree helps us to understand the history of our family and get to know our ancestors and their relationship with us. We can create a family tree of our own to learn more about our grandparents and great grand parents.
Activity: Find and paste the pictures of your family members mentioned in the family tree below to create your own family tree and show it to your teacher and fellow students.
A family tree can be extended to as many ancestors as we may know. We do not really need to keep it limited to our grandparents only. We can create a family tree for our many older generations if we know about them.

Chapter 2: Home and Surroundings
Our home is a place or a house where we live with our family. We have many different kinds of homes around us. Some homes are small and some are very huge.
Homes are also made up of different materials. People living in cities have houses that are made up of concrete and cement whereas people who live in villages have homes made up of mud.
People who live in coldest places have houses made up of ice bricks that are known as igloos which helps them to avoid cold present in open snowy environment and those living in hottest areas make homes with mud and clay. They do so because mud keeps the environment inside the house cold.
Different types of houses have different names. So people live in small cabins whereas some live in bungalows or in a huge building having many flats.
You can see different kinds of house buildings in picture given on this page. Ask your teacher to help you recognize and understand their structure.
We have many different rooms in our homes. Either big or small, every home has bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Let us have a look at these rooms that we all commonly have in our homes and identify the common things we have in these rooms and around our homes.
Bathroom
Bedroom
Now that you have identified so much on your own, you must know now that we human beings use our homes for our shelters and safety. The things that we use in our homes help us to live our life easily and make our lives comfortable.
Just like bedroom and bathroom, a kitchen is another important room or place inside our homes that has things common to every home. Let us have a look at the kitchen and label the things we see in the picture.
Just like having common rooms in our homes, we have many common places in our country and our cities as well. For example we have parks, shopping malls, hospitals, schools and masjids everywhere.
We also have special numbers and names given to our homes, streets and different buildings because these help us to find places easily using maps.
A map is a drawing which helps us to find different places in our cities, country or anywhere in the world where we are travelling.
We can use maps to identify and locate different places. We can also create maps ourselves.
A map has different parts that help us to understand the addresses to different places. The major parts of map are as follows:
Map Legend or Map Key: It shows different symbols along with their names to help us identify different places and objects on the map. A legend or map key is usually on one side of the map to help us understand the map easily.
Compass Rose: A compass rose helps us to understand the direction of a place. It tells us whether the place is in North, South, East or West.
A compass rose looks like a star and its four corners are mentioned with North, South, East and West.
Map Title or Map Heading: A map title or map heading tells us about the city, country or any place which has been shown in the map with directions to different places. It is written at the top of the map.
Scale Indicator: Our cities and countries or many places are very huge. But a map is drawn on a small paper. Hence the scale on the map for different places and distances does not show the actual distance of the places in real life.
A scale indicator is meant to help us convert the distances mentioned on the map into the distances of those places in real life.
Grid lines: These are horizontal and vertical lines which divide maps into smaller parts and represent longitudes and latitudes.
Let us have a look on a map activity to make things easier to understand:
Map Activity 1: Closely observe the map activity given below. It has a compass rose as well. Identify and tell the directions step by step you will cover to reach from one place to another. Take the help of your teacher to do this activity.

We all have homes and we all have many things that we need to live our lives. All human beings have different needs and wants.
To get the things and the basic necessities of our life like shelter, food, education and clothes etc. we need to do a job to earn money.
There are two different kinds of jobs. Paid jobs and unpaid jobs. Our mothers who are house wives, they do several jobs per day including coking the food, cleaning the house and doing the dishes etc. They do not get paid for it but they provide us with comfort and food. Hence they need to be appreciated for the efforts they put in to keep our stomachs full and keep our house and clothes clean.
Paid jobs include many occupations for example doctor, teacher, pilot, policeman, firefighter and architect etc. These people get paid for the work they do.
Activity: Orally tell the occupation of your father and mother to your teacher and class mates to identify different jobs in real life and related to the people in your family for better understanding of different occupations.
Whilst we are understanding the concept of job, we must understand that there are some people that work in our homes as house help. They do our dishes, clean the house and do the laundry. Similarly there are people who deliver food or who work as waiters in the restaurants.
All these people work to earn money to meet their basic necessities of life just like a doctor or any other big professional. We must respect every job or occupation equally.
Every job requires hard work and every person deserves respect regardless of their status and job.

Allama Iqbal who is our national poet, gave the idea of an independent country for the Muslims of Indian subcontinent.
